New Millennium Theatre Company presents the sequel to 2005’s critically acclaimed Shakesploitation! “With three more Shakespeare classics parodied in modern film styles, and condensed into smaller vignettes, Shakesploitation II: Iambic Boogaloo! takes a second crack at bringing the bard to the masses. This time around it’s ‘Richard the 13th.’ With Shakespeare’s most famous villain wreaking havoc upon a group of unsuspecting camp counselors Next, it’s the Bard’s most famous tale of star-crossed love, set to smooth R&B music, in a parody on ‘hip-hopera’ music videos in ‘Romeo & Juliet: Trapped in the Closet.’ Finally, think bad clothes, bad mustaches and (oh yes) bad 70’s headbands when Shakespeare’s classic battle of the sexes gets a whole lot sexier in ‘Taming of the Screw!”
Shakesploitation II: Iambic Boogaloo! will run August 18-September 23 2006, Fridays and Saturdays at 10:00 pm. All performances are at National Pastime Theatre, 4139 N Broadway between Montrose and Irving Park. Tickets are $15 general admission ($10 for students with valid student ID) and can be purchased online at www.nmtchicago.org
