New Millennium Theatre Company, who brought you such hits as ‘Evil Dead! The Musical’ and ‘I Know What You Did Last SHERMER,’ kicks off its 7th season with Shakesploitation!, three original parodies of classic Shakespeare plays. ‘Grand Theft Othello’ is a Blaxploitation take on Shakespeare’s tale of deception and jealousy. Plus, the action takes place in a modern day urban setting… which is awesome, because no one has ever tried that before… ever. Next, ‘Romeo and Juliet II: Dead By Dawn’ picks up right where the original tale left off, with Romeo and Juliet together forever as a pair of flesh-eating zombies! Finally, its tons of sword-fighting, blood spraying, poorly dubbed kung-fu action in the classic tale of revenge: ‘Ninja Hamlet: Burning Fist of Denmark.’ Shakesploitation! will be an entertaining, irreverent evening of parody that is sure to have the Bard spinning in his grave.
The cast of Shakesploitation! includes Ehren Fournier, Charles Glenn, Jonathon Legat, Stefani Bishop, Jared Dennis, Quinton Guyton, Ari Mulvaney, Adam Rosowicz and Rebecca Wright. Written and Directed by Andy Grigg. Assistant Director/Stage Manager - Tory Leigh.
All performances are at the Boxer Rebellion Theatre, 1257 W. Loyola, one block west of the Red Line Loyola L stop. The show will run March 11th – April 2nd, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm.
